Kindle is now for iPhone and iPodTouch

Amazon has recently released their kindle application for both iphone and iPodtouch. The Wall Street Journal has published an article on this:

Amazon’s software application, which can be downloaded free of charge, allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to read books or periodicals purchased on the Web or through their dedicated kindle device, usually for $9.99. Using a service that Amazon calls whispersync, the program keeps track of a readers’ latest page in any given book across both a kindle and iPhone.

Once you install the application you can see all your kindle books by using your amazon username and password, and of course, you can start reading your already purchased ebooks for kindle. In other words, you can read your ebooks both on kindle and on the iphone.

It’s not yet clear whether you have to be a kindle owner to purchase and read books on iphone or ipodtouch.  Some people suggest that you don’t need to be a kindle owner to purchase ebook from amazon from your iphone. However, the application is still U.S. only. Amazon don’t sell their ebooks to any non-U.S. customers. However, they might have a plan to sell kindle device to other countries sometime this year. Non-U.S. customers will not see the application in their country’s iTune store. Thatis a great disappointment.
