Amazon has dropped the price of international kindle to $259, and announced there would be no kindle 2 US. Previously there were two version of kindle: kindle 2 US, and kindle 2 International. From now on, there will be one kindle 2 – kindle 2 international. So now there is a perfect match of prices between kindle 2 and nook. Amazon has also released a new version of it iPhone application – kindle for iPhone – which adds two new features like highlighting, and notes. There will be an PC version of kindle application in November. Definitely, this idea of reading e-books came along to compete with the nook. Amazon has always reluctant to release an application so that you can read your purchased e-book also on your computer. Herr is the news release from amazon on this:
“kindle for PC features Amazon’s Whispersync technology that automatically saves and synchronizes bookmarks and last page read across devices. Whether you read kindle books on a kindle, kindle dx, or one of the free kindle applications, you can always have your reading with you and never lose your place. With kindle for PC, you can read some on your PC, read some on your kindle, and always pick up right where you left off. Whispersync helped make the kindle for iPhone application the most popular books app in the Apple App Store.”
What else? Okay people are speculating there would be a new kindle – kindle 3 before the holiday season. Even though, there are sharp criticism about higher prices of e-book set by B&N compared to amazon, it turns out that nook is a better e-book reader with a lot of possibility in future since it’s OS is Android-based. Some analysts argue that B&N has better relationship with publishers for a long time as they have 1000+ physical bookstires across US.
