“….We need to figure out the right journalistic product to deliver to mobile platforms and devices. I’m hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple slate, or whatever comes after that…” says Bill Keller, The NYTime Executive Editor, last week in a speech that was apparently supposed to be off the record, but that was posted by the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard.
Gizmodo published a scoop on September 30, 2009 titled “Apple Tablet To Redefine Newspapers, Textbooks and Magazines” revealing that Apple had a high level talks s with senior executives from across the publishing industry regarding a possible e-reader:
A person close to a VP in textbook publishing mentioned to me in July that McGraw Hill and Oberlin Press are working with Apple to move textbooks to iTunes. There was no mention of any more detail than that, but it does link back to a private Apple intern idea competition held on campus, in their Town Hall meeting area in 2008, where the winning presentation selected by executives was one focused on textbook distribution through iTunes….
……..Apple also recently had several executives from one of the largest magazine groups at their Cupertino’s campus, where they were asked to present their ideas on the future of publishing. Several mockups of magazines were present in interactive form.
It seems now big iPodTouch like tablet will be named Slate, which we never heard of until Mr. Bill Keller mentioned about it. But when? That’s what we don’t know yet. The guess is first quarter of next year. However, the e-book industry is moving so fast, and the competition is getting fierce in recent days as such happened with music industry years back – things can happen anytime.

Apple Tablet
A Apple Tablet PC hasn’t been used or we (as the users) haven’t yet been familiar with. Unlike the iPhone and iPod, it became a big BOOM! because we are already honed by it. Let’s just see how this one plays out.
