From Kevin, admistrator of B&N’s book forum:
As with all hot consumer products, the sooner you order, the sooner you’ll receive nook. The first nook pre-orders will begin shipping on or about Nov. 30. Orders placed today will ship on or about Dec. 11. Your anticipated ship date can be found by clicking the Order Status link on the top right corner of this page. As a reminder, you can pre-order nook online or at any Barnes & Noble store. nook orders placed in a store will be shipped to your address. All Barnes & Noble stores will have nook demo models around Nov. 30. Our largest stores will have nook for sale in the store at that time.

There are some reports of shipping delay of B&N’s nook. It has also created some confusion regarding whether nook pre-order has been delayed as a whole due to Spring Design’s latest sue, or it’s a marketing strategy. B&N store doesn’t show any up-to-date news about nook availability as we used to get from amazon for kindle. Unless you order a nook you don’t know available shipping date. After going trough some posts on B&N ebook club forum, it became clear to me that there are now three slots of shipping of nook:
It seems, in a couple of days, there will be another time-frame for new pre-orders. The earliest day of a handheld experience is still more than 20 days away, and if you pre-order little late you can’t get a nook for the holiday season.
kindle Wireless Reading Device (6″ Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation)
Sony Digital Reader Touch Edition – Black (PRS600BC)
Sony Reader Digital Book with touch screen – PRS700BC
Sony Digital Reader Pocket Edition – Silver (PRS300SC)
as of this weekend (nov. 15) the estimated ship date for new pre-orders seems to be Dec. 18.
Is there any information out there as to how accurate these estimates actually are? Are they cautiously conservative or should they instead be seen as a message that B&N will have major trouble getting them out?
I don’t think there is any serious matter behind the shipping dates. B&N is serving customers on first-come-first-serve basis. The shipping dates are based the supply of nooks.
