Amazon unveiled new publishing tools for developers, as the capabilities of the Kindle Fire and other tablets inspire publishers to bring e-books to a whole new level.

The online retail giant released a new suite of tools called KF8 that will allow developers and publishers to specifically tailor books for the Web, with interactive features that cater to the capabilities of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet, Kindle e-readers, and other Android devices.

The demand for e-books is rapidly expanding along with the booming market for tablets and e-readers, and as the medium grows and changes, companies look to innovative technology to help improve the consumer’s experience and integrate more content. Digital-book pioneer Amazon’s tools make it easier to design book editions that take advantage of wireless connectivity.

“Through the use of HTML5 and CSS3, KF8 allows publishers to create great-looking books in all categories, particularly those that require rich formatting and design, such as technical & engineering books and cookbooks,” Amazon said in a statement.

The KF8 platform includes KindleGen, which enables users to convert source material from other formats, and the Kindle Previewer so creators can see exactly how their works will look on electronic devices.

Graphics are increasingly important as devices become better able to display them, and the new tools could be especially valuable for creators of graphic novels, comic books, and children’s books, Amazon pointed out……..
