Android Flood is on its Way: The eBook Angle

After Apple’s success with iPad, a lot of mainstream companies are has lined up to release Tablet PCs with Android OS. Already we have few names those are supposed to come to market later this year:Dell Streak, ICD Ultra, NEC Life Touch, Acer Tablet, LG Tablet, Notion Ink Adam, Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000, Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet, Cisco Cius, much-rumored Google Tablet, and finally Archos 7, which is already in the market and available at $199. Most of them will have 7″ – 15″ traditional LCD screen except the Notion Ink Adam which is the first tablet to use Pixel Qi LCD screen. From ereader point of view, Pixel Qi screen is the best since it saves 80% energy of traditional LCD screen. It means longer battery life which is an essential component for an ereader. On the top of that, you can read or watch anything in the sunlight, and you can turn the screen in B&W mode turning it into like an eInk screen. I hope most manufacturers will use Pixel Qi screen for most of the tablets targeting ebook reading pretty soon.

Since all these devices use Android OS you’ll have the ability to download (from Google Android Market) ereader apps like Kindle, B&N ereader, Kobo reader, and Aldiko reader to read your favorite ebooks even without owning Kindle 2 or Kindle DX, Nook, Kobo, and Sony readers.
