What’s happening in eReader market?
Is the demand for the e-ink based e-reader dying out? look at the following figure:
According to iSuppli sales of e-readers like the Amazon Kindle and the Nook have peaked in 2011 with 23.2 million units. After that sales figure shows downhill. And its expected to continue next years. However, ereader sales show sharp uphill while downhill is much flatter.
We can expect a color screen eReader, an alternative to iPad or LCD type screen, to revamp the market.

Kindle and Apple’s magazine subscriptions are no way better than Zinio, but still cost more
ReadWriteWeb has just run a story about cost of digital magazine subscription comparing Zinio, iTunes, and Kindle. As you can see from the following table (thanks to ReadWriteWeb), the subscription cost is far less than the others. Although the story didn’t compare the prices for same magazine across three platforms, it can still be said that Zinio offers better prices. More importantly, the reading experience is way far better with Zinio on iPad. Kindle app on iPad can’t offer better subscription management of magazines. Amazon's latest move after Nook Tablet announcement
Amazon is head-to-head with B&N again in regards to pricing of ereaders. B&N has just announced Nook Tablet at $249 – a $50 higher price tag but with double the size of the RAM and internal storage. Similarly, B&N cuts the price of Nook Touch to $99 – a $40 less price tag for a similar kind of device- Kindle Touch wifi – by Amazon. Amazon Getting Ready for Large Screen Kindle Fire
The new Kindle Fire is not out yet, and reports are coming in that Amazon is on the move to release a large screen Kindle Fire during the first half of 2012. According to Digitimes, Foxconn, the company behind iPad, has secured orders from Amazon for assembling second-generation Kindle Fire tablet. The current 7″ Kindle Fire is being assembled by Quanta Computer. There are some reports that Amazon contacted Foxconn to assemble 7″ Kindle Fire; but Foxconn tried not to jump in 7″ devices since they are more akin to work with iPad-like screen size.
Amazon Launches French Kindle Store
Amazon has launched French Kindle Store, and the new French Kindle wifi is available for pre-order. No words yet regarding other models of Kindle yet. The price is EUR 99, which is equivalent to US$130. This is not ads supported one. That’s for U.S. only. However, non-ad supported U.S. kindle wifi is only US$109. In other words, Amazon is charging more on French Kindle.The Kindle will be available October 14, 2011.

According to Amazon Kindle Team,
Our new Kindle Touch 3G enables you to connect to the Kindle Store, download books and periodicals, and access Wikipedia – all over 3G or Wi-Fi. Kindle Line-up for This Year
AppleInsider reports by refering Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has detailed three new kindle products that are expected to be announced at Amazon’s media event this Wednesday. These products are:
- A new 6″ e-ink kindle

- A 7″ IPS (e-ink and LCD) kindle tablet
