iPad Got Stanza from Amazon, But Not Kindle Books on Stanza
[stextbox id="info"]The king is back! It might not be as pretty as iBooks, but in terms of features and flexibility, Stanza thrashes Apple’s offering. Free, available now. – Wires.com[/stextbox]
Amazon didn’t kill Stanza. A lot of us believed that the sole purpose of acquisition of Lexicycle (the creator of Stanza) is to kill it before it’s get into the hand of amazon’s competitor. Stanza is free for iPhone/iPodTouch, and it’s one of the favorite ereader for alot of people. With an update to version 3.0 Stanza now available for iPad, which came after a lot of speculation about it’s demise in amazon’a hand. The new version for iPad support PDF, Djvu, and Comic Book Archeve. Some bloggers report that PDFs look excellent on Stanza, and they are happy with Comic Book support. Some other great benefits of Stanza are:
- You can ransfer books via iTunes by dragging files into the “Stanza Documents” part of the “File Sharing” section at the bottom of the “Apps” tab that appears when you select your iPad from the “Devices” list in iTunes.
- Open books directly from web pages and e-mail attachments
It has a lot of options in setting delivering flexibility with a huge number of format supports, which makes Stanza almost an universal reader. However, surprisingly amazon decided to make kindle format unsupported for Stanza. Stanza has evolved, and seems still on its way to evolve further; but Kindle for iPhone/iPad or desktop didn’t evolve that much, even it doesn’t have a basic in-built dictionary support while Stanza has. And importantly, Stanza supports ePUB which amazon seems not to consider for Kindle. On the one hand readers like Stanza most, but end up with ebooks buying from amazon to read on iPhone/iPad/desktop ereader application for Kindle which they don’t like that much. Why can’t Kindle reader evolve to Stanza? Or amazon do give access to kindle books on Stanza. Why does amazon play such dual role? Is it strategic decision? What kind of strategy? Doesn’t this strategy hurt consumers too much?
