Disconnect your kindle from any power source, and then slide and hold the power switch for 15 seconds before releasing. It may take up to 30 seconds to reboot. It is not the same reset as kindle 1. You can also try Menu->Settings->Menu->Restart.

What about kindle 1?

First see if you can press Alt-Shift-R, which is the keyboard short cut for a reboot. If it is really locked up this might not work.

There is also a hard reset button underneath the back cover. Use a paper clip or other small object to press the Reset button on the left side of the back of the kindle. Your kindle will take a few minutes to restart.

If the reset doesn’t work you can try a combination of things:

1. Remove the battery
2. Plug in the ac adapter w/o the battery (this will clear the screen)
3. Put the battery back in and let it charge
