eBook consumption has grown astonishingly on Tablets compared to other digital contents
BI Intelligence has recently published a report concerning content consumption on mobile devices that include Tablet and Smartphones. The following figure (thanks to Business Insider) shows the patterns of usages by media or content types. The data for the reports are based on fourth quarter of 2011 collected by Nielsen. Since then, tablet market is growing at a very faster rate with the introduction of new and improved devices from Apple, Amazon, B&N, Samsung, Google and others.
However, based on the data, as you can see ebook consumption on tablets is 41% compared to 9% on smartphones. More >

Relative Size eBook Stores
The Digital Inspiration blog has produced a chart showing the comparison of ebook stores among Apple iBook store, B&N Nook Store, Sony Reader Store and Amazon Kindle Store. According to the blog:
Sony says their eBook store has more than 1.2 million titles but if we discount Google Books, the actual store size is around 60,000 titles.
Barnes & Noble’s eBook store too claims to have more than a million books for the Nook but the number of titles available in the store is around 26,000 – the rest are public domain (out of copyright) works that you may download through Google Books.

Should Amazon Buy B&N?
It’s now final that B&N is going to be sold. The share price is ‘significantly undervalues’, and the company had poor earnings last quarter. The WSJ reports:
Barnes & Noble Inc., put itself up for sale Tuesday, succumbing to pressure from shareholder activists as digital books erode the traditional business of the nation’s largest bookstore chain.
