A New Graphite Kindle DX at $379 – Why Doesn’t it Make Any Sense?

Amazon has silently released a new Kindle DX, not really new something ground breaking. Amazon doesn’t brand it as Kindle DX 2. Nothing new in the device except the color – its now graphite, not white. And according to Amazon:

Our graphite Kindle DX uses our all new, improved electronic ink display, with 50% better contrast for the clearest text and sharpest images.

What is the big thing is that Amazon has reduced the price of Kindle DX to $379 -  a $110 below the previous price. This new price is applicable for white and graphite Kindle DX. While Amazon should be focusing on a new Kindle 2 More >

Kindle DX May Go Global Anytime

Engadget got an snapshoot of amazon website – on the right corner it says: “Kindle DX Now with Global Wireless.” Not yet, really; but amazon is probably ready to ship Kindle DX globally like Kindle 2. There will be no Kindle DX (U.S. wireless) then. If you go to amazon website or it’s kindle site, you don’t see that anymore, rather you’ll see something on free 2-day shipping.

Remember, Kindle DX is out of stock now. It’ll take 2-3 weeks to get it if you order now. It seems that new supply of Kindle DX will come with global wireless service as it happened with kindle 2. That makes more sense More >

A Student Experience With Kindle DX

kindle dx is being used as a pilot project n many U.S. universities. The question is whether kindle can replace the paper book. It should be considered from both usability and cost perspective. On amazon kindle forum Christopher A. Hammer have recently expressed his opinion after using kindle dx as part of the university course. Here is his experience as he writes:

Is Kindle DX Really Good for PDF e-books?

Okay, amazon has released kindle dx with native PDF support targeting not only textbooks but also the people who have huge collection PDF e-books or technical documents. It’s true that PDF support is the most sort-after feature on an e-book device; but the size of the screen has so far been lacking.

Now DX is out; and people are putting forward reviews on the internet. Here is some reviews from amazon review page about kindle dx‘s PDF support:
