On blogkindle, a recent post with download links shows how you can install non-English unicode fonts and read your content in your preferred language. According to the post, “hack comes in a form of manually installable patch and is fully reversible. Source code is included so you can customize the hack.”
On another front, Jesse Vincent has developed a patch for kindle 2 called ‘SAVORY‘ so that you can read PDF and EPUB e-books and documents converted natively on the kindle. In other words, after the installation of the hack you can just drop PDF or EPUB files in the ‘document’ folder on your kindle 2, and the files will autometically convert into kindle format. In that case you don’t need to spent $0.10 on amazon for the conversion of PDF files. In addition you can read EPUB formatted e-books natively. Remember, amazon kindle natively doesn’t support any format other than .azw, unprotected mobipocket, and .txt e-books.
Since you have to install both patches on your kindle read thoroughly the directions how to proceed and what are the advantages and disadvanges with such installation.
