What Guardian Poll Suggests About Kindle?

October 16, 2009

in Kindle

In a recent Guardian poll, 646 people participated regarding their preference for kindle.

How many want to buy a kindle?

22%

What are the reasons in favor of buying kindle?

kindle is cool, sleek looking compared to Sony reader, can carry large number of book,  cost is less than first iPod, want to experience the kindle functionality like downloading a book wireless on the device, and as a substitue for reading newspaper & magazines, larger screen of kindle compared to iPhone.

What are the reasons against buying kindle?

kindle is too expensive, computer screen is enough for reading e-books, too expensive to ship to U.K., DRM, not supporting multiple formats, comes with a US charger,  browser won’t work in the UK, no Wi-Fi support, big & ugly, prefer old-fashioned paper-book.

Guarding verdict?

“the reality is that people still like books. At least, for leisure reading. One can see enormous uses for ebooks in work: how terrific for someone repairing a plane not to have to carry the entire manual for it around (and they can get graphics on the screen too).”
