What it means to be 'kindle killer'?

‘kindle killer’ has recently become a buzz word as much as the kindle is. People are used to this or that will be kindle-killer. For example, if apple comes with a big-screen ipodTouch or a tablet, that would be a kindle killer. I understand,

• some people are not happy with amazon’s kindle .awz format with is closed form.
• some don’t like as the formats are DRMed.
• some people don’t like e-paper since it’s still black and while.
• some are not happy as amazon don’t support desktop support for kindle e-books.
• some are not happy with the price of kindle 2 or kindle dx.
• some are unhappy as we can’t read PDF e-books on kindle 2 due to small screen-size.
• Even though kindle dx address that issue, it’s not sufficient yet as we can’t take notes, search text, and take clippings of PDF files on the new kindle.

All these are true; I would be happier than ever if amazon comes with any device overcoming those limitations. However, if some company comes with overcoming all those limitations, but can’t provide contents enough I can choose from, I’m not going to go with that device. I have used all kinds of e-book devices since the launch of rocket e-books or soft books, and now settled with kindle 2. The mail reason is the fact that whether I can find an e-book that I;m looking for. kindle has a lot of improvements over all other devices as well as has the biggest e-book store.

People forget that the fact that it’s not the device itself that matters in terms of success of an e-reader, it’s the content – that is important. Amazon kindle store is approaching 300,000 titles – the biggest e-book store so far. And amazon is adding around 500 e-books daily on average. They are also trying to build up inventory of e-textbooks with the upcoming release of kindle dx. Amazon is aggressively pursing policies to encourage bloggers to enlist their blogs so that they can monetize on that. A lot of newspapers and magazines are being added time to time.

I’m also in favor of a kindle killer, but not for wrong reasons.
