Will There Be a Nook 2? And Should You Wait Until then?

in Nook

There are reports that nook is sluggish, and less responsibe to touch on the LCD screen, even sometimes the swipe gestures do not work on the touch screen. Gizmodo says that that’s their biggest disappointment, but still they find a lot of future possibilities with nook. I found some comments on the blogsphere that people want to wait for the second generation of nook with better capability. To me, all problems with as get from hand-on review is software specific, not hardware specific. If so, then those problems can be resolved by a software update. Already there is some speculation that there will be an software update in January. If that is the case, then why would you want to wait for new nook. I guess people have that kind of perception from amazon’s kindle experiences. In last two years, amazon released several kindles: kindle 1, kindle 2 (US), kindle 2 (global), and kindle dx. The leap from kindle 1 to kindle 2 (US) was mainly design specific, and kindle 2 (US) to kindle (global) due to amazon’s decision to enter global market, and kindle dx has something to do with educational market.

With nook, there is no such possibility. Reviews on nook reveal that nook is aesthetically better than kindle; secondly, nook uses AT&T wireless which is why B&N doesn’t need to release any global nook, and finally, B&N will seel QUE reader from January next year, which has A4 size screen. In other words, there may not be any second seneration of nook unless B&N decides to change outlook of current nook.
