You Don't Need a Kindle 2 / Kindle DX To Read e-books, May Be You Need An Asus EEEPC Tablet

With the release of kindle for PC (kindle for Mac coming soon) you don’t need a kindle or iphone/ipodtouch to buy kindle e-books from amazon. If you travel a lot, and love to read novels for a long time a $259 kindle 2 price is now better; but if you need to read a lot of PDF e-books, or technical e-books, or even e-textbook, then kindle dx with a price tag $489 is way too expensive given that pdf e-books on kindle dx lack annotation, dictionary support etc. If you’re ready to spend $40-$50 more then you can buy Asus eeePC T91 Tablet with Win XP/Windows 7. The main features of the device are:

  • 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 Processor
  • 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 1 Slot, 2GB Max
  • 32GB Solid State Drive + 500GB Free Eee Storage
  • 8.9-Inch Touch LED LCD Display; Multi-Touch Functionality; Bluetooth; wifi; 3G;
  • Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit) Operating System; 5 Hour Battery Life

If you go for 16GB one with winXP, that’s even cheaper, cheaper than kindle dx. Given the lack of flexibility with e-ink devices, and high price tag, and the fact is that the market for a perfect e-Reader still in infancy, it seems to me a good deal to go for such tablet devices, or UMPC devices in the same price range, or even cheaper.
